There are individuals who can infiltrate others' minds and control their memories. This power has been used to erase secrets or worse, for murder. The potential power described is so strong that it can destroy people's minds, but it can also result in self-destruction. To counter this, chains are used to protect weak and dangerous hearts. Due to the increasing fear and humiliation of the individual, they were eventually referred to as "pets" or domestic animals.
